We close one year, and begin a new one.
A great time to self-examine our hearts. To ask ourselves, who did we serve this year? Who did we trust this year? Who did we walk these 365 days with? Did we grow bitter or did we grow better? Did we learn to sit in silence or did we learn to speak up with boldness? Did we blend in with the world this year, or did we feel like an outcast because of our faith in Jesus Christ. Did we grow more in knowledge of our Heavenly Father and our Lord? What did the challenges and storms of this year let you learn?
In Luke Chapter 8, the disciples faced the storm with Jesus in the boat with them. They panicked and thought they were going to perish. Jesus in turn woke up from His sleep, and commanded the wind and the water to calm down. The disciples looked at one another Luke 8:25 “But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”
The disciples walked with Jesus, ate with Jesus, and saw first-hand the miracles that Jesus was doing. Yet they didn’t KNOW who Jesus was.
Jesus met the 11 disciples in Galilee after He resurrected. Matthew 28:17 “When they saw HIM, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.” Even though the disciples walked those 3 years with Jesus, and saw HIM after He resurrected from the dead, yet some still doubted!!
As we examine our hearts these next few days following the New Year, will we be able to say we know and trust God and His Son Jesus Christ more this year, or will we discover we still have trust issues?
Even though some doubted Jesus, and some didn’t know HIM yet, Jesus was still given authority in heaven and on earth. He still told the 11 to go and make disciples of all the nations. He said He would be with them always, even to the end of the age.
Whatever we find as we examine our hearts, may we be reminded that GOD is still GOD, and even though we might be fearful, with our teeth chattering, our hands shaking, our knees buckling, may we be reminded that Jesus is in control. Do not fear, and keep proclaiming The Good News. The one that commands the storms to calm down, and the one who defeated the grave. He promised He will be with us even to the end of the age.
Every moment belongs to HIM, every year HE has already been there. HE is with us, even when we are still growing in faith.
Lord, we ask that You may increase the seeds of faith in us. Show us what is lacking, what needs to be uprooted, help our heart, mind, and soul bloom & flourish in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Jesus' Name we pray.
